I don't think I have experienced an entrance into the New Year that was quite so powerful.
I know that people have mixed feelings about Fireworks. I do as well. There are definitely negative aspects to them, and those reasons are very valid. However, last night, as we rang in the New Year, something about the Fireworks felt very cleansing.
They were originally intended to scare away demons and bad spirits.
The same is true of Smoke Clearing.
I am fortunate (and sometimes unfortunate) enough to live in a neighborhood where we can get a pretty decent fireworks show just from hanging out in the front yard.
The fireworks had been booming sporadically since it got dark, increasing in frequency as the night carried on.
I stepped outside around 11:50, there was already heavy and smoky, which was actually odd, because it had never been quite that smoky before. You could even see the clouds from the fireworks, some even still shaped as the bright light explosion it was just a moment before. I decided to just sit on the sidewalk and enjoy the moment to myself, as the occasional firework burst around me.
There was this moment of silence, as if the world was waiting to see, will 2021 really leave us?
Then midnight hit.
The ground and air around me boomed and roared, I could hear fireworks going off all around, but none could be seen from where I was. Moments later the show began. It was loud as hell and bright and beautiful and absolute Mayhem. It felt as if the New Year was coming in with a roar and making sure nothing from the previous year stuck around to haunt us. The past was Banged away, Smoked away, Cleared away, so that we could start anew.
Just as suddenly as it began, it stopped, and here was this moment of absolute silence. As invigorating as the entrance into 2022 was, the following silence was a warm blanket of peace and calm.
It felt like pent up breath finally released.
This was the most cathartic and powerful New Year's Eve I have ever experienced. And I am so grateful to have that be my first moments into 2022. Whatever this year brings, it started with a cleansing and powerful
